LCS Students Visit Former President John Agyekum Kufuor to Promote Reading
Naomi Ferrao, Class of 2026
As a student from LCS, I and a few of my friends recently had the distinct honor of visiting His Excellency, former President John Agyekum Kufuor, at his private residence. This enlightening meeting was organized by the service club, Ghana Must Read, which is dedicated to promoting literacy and a love for reading among young people.
We engaged in a spirited discussion with the former president about the pivotal role of reading in personal and national development. Former President Kufuor, an avid advocate for education and reading, shared his own experiences and emphasized how reading has been instrumental in shaping his views and decision-making throughout his career.
During the visit, each of us had the opportunity to ask questions and share our thoughts on how reading can impact our lives and communities. The former president warmly encouraged us to cultivate a reading habit, noting that it opens doors to knowledge, creativity, and critical thinking—skills essential for future leaders.

The meeting was not just a learning experience but also an inspiration for we as students to continue our journey as lifelong learners. As we left ex- President Kufuor’s residence, we carried with us not only the valuable lessons he imparted but also a renewed passion to spread the message of reading within their community.
This memorable encounter highlighted the importance of mentorship and the profound impact that reading can have on individuals and society as a whole. The Ghana Must Read club remains committed to its mission of fostering a culture of reading, ensuring that as the next generation, we are well-equipped to navigate the challenges of the future.
