GHAMUN Continues to Grow
Johnny Schwerk, MYP Counselor
Lincoln Community School hosts its annual Model United Nations (MUN) conference on January 30-February 1, 2025. MUN is a student-led simulation of the United Nations, where students are assigned countries to represent in committees devoted to addressing specific global issues. This year’s theme is “Mpatapo: Cooperation and Reconciliation for a Better World” and the 76 delegates will debate in three committees: Security Council, Human Rights Council, and the Economic and Social Council.
There are 18 students from LCS who will be conference delegates, in addition to the six committee chairs, four Secretariat members, six administrative staff and a Press Corps that will create a daily publication for the three conference days.
We are proud to welcome students from seven schools to our campus, including two traveling to Ghana specifically to attend GHAMUN XVIII: International School of Lusaka (Zambia) and Windhoek International School (Namibia). The other participating schools are Ghana International School, Alpha Beta Christian College, International Community School, Beacon College International and Eden International School.
Eden International School is just starting their MUN program and the MUN director at LCS, Johnny Schwerk, went to Eden to teach their students the basics of the program and how to prepare for an MUN conference. Two years ago, Johnny also trained students at Beacon College International (BCI) for their first MUN and this year a student from BCI will be the first guest chair at GHAMUN XVIII!
