DEIJ for Belonging

DEIJ for Belonging Newsletter

From the LCS DEIJ for B Team

Welcome to the first of the DEIJ for B newsletters which will be published on a quarterly basis. These will have all the latest actions being taken by LCS in our quest for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice for Belonging.  Firstly, a reminder of the DEIJ for B LCS statement:

Some Actions Planned for this school year (we have a whole set of actions embedded into this year’s Annual Plan; here are just a few:)

  • Communicate, discuss and implement the school’s DEIJ vision statement
  • To use the school’s 4 DEIJ for B questions when planning projects, events and activities.
  • To support student leadership and agency by providing opportunities for students to work alongside staff in school taskforces.
  • To continue to recruit for a diverse faculty
  • To establish a reporting mechanism so that incidents of discrimination can be reported, and acted upon within a culture of trust.

“I love the sense of community at LCS, especially
having younger buddies”

Bhavya (Class of 2026)

“What I love about being at LCS is that, as a student, my voice is encouraged and heard. That’s really not the same at every school. ”

A Senior  (Class of 2025)

Prompts for Family Discussions
(sometimes it is hard to discuss these matters with your children/teenagers; here are some prompts that might be helpful)

  • What does discrimination look or sound like?
  • What would you do if you witness (or see) discrimination or unkindness?
  • Is equity and equality the same thing?
  • How can we learn from other people who are different from ourselves?

“Not everything that is faced can be changed. But nothing can be changed until it is faced.”

James Baldwin (Civil Rights Activist)

DEIJ for B Parent Advisory Group Update

Hi! We’re the DEIJ for Belonging Parent Advisory Group at LCS. Our mission is to provide feedback and service that promotes an inclusive school experience, and builds a sense of belonging for everyone, no matter our differences. We work closely with the PTO and meet monthly with the Head of School and the joint DEIJB Committee (students, staff, and parents) to collaborate on addressing concerns and driving change.

One of our key roles is supporting parents to ensure their voices are heard and addressed according to their preferences and our relationship guidelines. Your voice is crucial to helping us learn: what are we not hearing and who are we not hearing from?

Have you joined a DEIJB Parent Open Session yet? We invite you to join us on the 2nd Wednesdays monthly from 8:30-9:30 AM (in-person or online) to share your thoughts, listen, or simply check in—no long-term commitment needed! All parents/families are welcome. Our next sessions are:

  • WED, NOV 13
  • WED, DEC 11

Looking for a way to contribute to belonging at LCS? We need you! We’re seeking new members for project management support. No experience needed in DEIJB—just your willingness to learn, energy to commit, and agreement with our relationship guidelines. We meet twice a month and would love to have you on board! Feel free to email us to check out one of our planning meetings.

We would LOVE to hear from you–send questions/ideas/interest to: [email protected]
